Collection

It is a permanent collection of microscopic diatom specimens collected in Croatia, representing the first institutional diatom algae collection in the country.

History

Most of Jurilj’s scientific work was on the taxonomy, evolution and structure of diatoms. During a period of 10 years and many contacts with his former students, we were still not able to locate his original collection

Material deposit

Is achieved through fieldwork by the Algology Group at the University of Zagreb, as well as through donations and exchanges with other institutions.

Diatoms

Diatoms are unicellular, photosynthetic eukaryotes classified as algae and are widely used as indicators of environmental change in freshwater ecosystems.

Gallery

We are dedicated to promoting and improving teaching, and would be pleased to provide material and support for education about diatoms.
